At Stars In Motion performing arts school, fun and friends are an important part of our curriculum. Proper dance instruction, with emphasis on ballet technique, is partnered with exciting class studies, community performances, as well as large productions throughout the dance season.
Seasonal workshops and conventions highlight specific dance disciplines and offer creative outlets in many different areas of performance.
As the official school of Ballet DeSoto, our students perform annually in the Nutcracker and Broadway ShowCase. Our students are encouraged to audition for the Spring ballet and summer arts programs as well.
Other performance opportunities include charity events such as March of Dimes' WalkAmerica, American Cancer Society's Relay for Life, and DeSoto Sunrise Olde Time Festival. Community performances include RiverKings' games, Christmas parades, MayFest, and our annual Valentine's Day performance at Baptist DeSoto Healthcare Center. Students gain valuable performance skills by repeating a fun routine in a casual atmosphere and never fail to entertain the crowd!
For students ready to advance to the next level of performance, Competition teams provide group and solo opportunities for adjudication. Members of ShowStars Companies compete at various venues throughout the Mid-South. Those members whose skill level permits will travel to Orlando, FL for Co. Dance National Competition and Convention. Requirements for Company include commitment of time, attendance at both technique and Company classes, mastery of certain basic and advanced skills as well as a superior stage presence. Company also requires a stronger financial commitment than recreational dance.
For students age 13 or older and serious about dance, Spring Break is spent in New York City with classes at Broadway Dance Center, Steps on Broadway and American Ballet Theater School. We do manage to fit in some fun with visits to Chinatown, Ruby Foo's, Serendipity 3, a Broadway show and the Chocolate Room!
A favorite event at SIM is Kids' Nite Out. This evening is a themed party with dinner, crafts, creative play and of course ... dancing! Parents can enjoy an evening together knowing that their children are having a blast! During the summer months, this event turns into Kids' Day Out allowing for a day of catching up, or winding down, while the little ones enjoy a fun-filled day with their friends.
Birthday parties at SIM range from 'Fairy Tale' and 'Ballerina' to 'Diva' parties! Each party is designed specifically according to your child's wishes. With a 1700 square foot ballroom, we have lots of space to play games, have cake, open presents, and perform a unique routine choreographed just for you!
