At Stars In Motion, fitness and "healthy habits" are part of our core curriculum. Our philosophy is that dance is more than an art, it is a sport.
Just as in any sport, participants must be aware of proper warm up techniques, strengthening and conditioning related to their sport. In dance, stamina, center/core strength and overall health are important factors in injury prevention as well as performance quality.
Our staff is trained in cardio education, yoga and Pilates beyond their individual level of dance training. We hold group fitness weekly and encourage at home practice. Our students are assigned "homework" in which they will take the fitness skills learned in class and "teach" them to family members.
SIM director Jill Morris is a member of the Community Health Council and works to promote the benefits of a healthy lifestyle. Each class at SIM includes a fitness feature and/or healthy habit that students will hopefully adapt as a lifelong fitness lifestyle. For more on the CHC, visit
